What is Frack!!?

FRACK!! (the Mountain Music Comedy Spectacular) is a full-length musical comedy play. Set in the Raleigh County area, the story revolves around a family who has recently fallen on hard times and has been presented with the opportunity for a gas company to drill on their land. This lighthearted play features 8 original songs which have been created and will be performed by some of the region's top musical talent, including Long Point String Band, The Kind Thieves, and MORE!

The Story

Things are tough all over for Jim Cunningham. A coal truck driver who recently lost his job and his marriage, Jim isn't exactly adapting well to life as a stay at home single parent. With two kids, a twenty-something daughter which can best be described as lazy, and a son with an ever-evolving identity crisis, Jim is clearly in over his head. In addition to family's issues, Jim's bills are piling up and his chances at employment are getting fewer by the day. Luckily, as Jim is about to hit his breaking point, he is met by a peculiar visitor from the Grendel Gas Corporation with an interesting offer; all of his money problems can go away on one, simple stipulation... only they can decide where on his property to install the gas fracturing well. With only a minimal amount of time to make a decision, Jim is forced to ask the hard question, how far will he go to provide for his family?

The goal is to create an event which transcends the average local theater experience, becoming something closer to a community building project designed specifically for the people of the area. Frack!! will premiere at Tamarack Best of WV's Appalachian Music & Arts Festival on June, 9 2017. After the debut, Frack!! will run every weekend for 3 weeks at The Raleigh Playhouse and Theatre in Beckley WV.

A Message From The Playwright

First off, I'd like to offer a quick thanks for taking a moment to consider helping out with our production of FRACK!!. We are reaching out because what we are putting together here hasn't really been done before in the region: a music theatrical written, created, produced and performed by Beckley area locals. The scope of this project is large, and to do well, requires a budget beyond that of an average play production. Our hopes are to be able to afford a reasonable advertising campaign to help give the show the exposure it needs to get people in the door. Containing 15 plus cast members and running for over a month, it is important for us to do what we can to guarantee that all those involved will get paid for their hard work. In addition, our end goal is to create a production that will put smiles on people's faces and music in their hearts, as well as give the people of Raleigh County something to be proud of knowing that FRACK!! was created by the community for the community.
